PAUL MARIE LETAROUILLY EDIFICES DE ROME MODERNE
Paul Letarouilly's three-volume masterpiece, Edifices de Roine nzoderne, "Buildings of Modern Rome," first published in 1840, has been hailed as 'the most beautiful book on Renaissance architecture" ever published. Letarouilly devoted thirty-five years to the task of compiling this collection of 354 plates showing plans, sections, and elevations, as well as perspectives and _ large-scale details of the most important and notable buildings in Renaissance Rome. The precision, clarity, and scrupulous attention to detail that Letarouilly demanded of his enotavers literally advanced the state-of-the-art of nineteenth-century etching. The rendering techniques used are superb and the execution perfect; the result is a hook as beautiful as it is useful.
Princeton Architectural Press is pleased to offer Edifices de Rome nzoderne as part of our continuing architectural reprint series. We have condensed the three original tomes into a single hardbound volume. As with all of our hooks, quality is our prime concern.
Letarouilly believed that studying the _past awakens the imagination of the artist, giving him "the first few happy facts in the immense field he is exploring" and adding to his own ideas and inspiration. Letarouilly's Edifices de Rome nzoderne is now one of the most important and sought-after books needed to complete any architectural library.
